So, I have now read Ryoko Popjoy’s translation of Akiko Kurumi’s Choshin twice and I still need to read it again in the future. The second time around I believe I can see a clearer format; that is, there is a story within a story within a story within a story ….. within, evidently, the reality of historical fact! I envision a movie!
